February is National Pet Dental Health month. So I want to tell you the importance of a good clean mouth. Our teeth gets tartar and plaque buildup just like humans, so brushing our teeth daily is very important. Not caring for our teeth can lead to advanced dental disease and higher treatment costs for heart, lungs, liver and kidney diseases.
Signs of Dental Problems in Cats
- Bad breath – one of the first signs of dental disease
- A yellowish-brown crust of plaque on the teeth near the gum line
- Red and swollen gums
- Pain or bleeding when your pet eats or when the mouth or gums are touched
- Decreased appetite or difficulty eating
- Loose or missing teeth
So ask your veterinarian about professional cleanings and how to brush your cat’s teeth.
